Ms. Monica

Ms. Monica is a Puerto Rican 2nd-4th Grade English, Math, and Creative Writing teacher, fiction writer and translator. She has published several stories in The Literary Review, [IN]GeniosOur Word Zine, and the Columbia University School of the Arts, Writing Program Thesis Anthology 2018. Ms. Monica is a 2018 graduate from the Columbia University M.F.A. Writing Program and a 2016 summa cum laude graduate from the University of Puerto Rico with a B.A. in English Literature. In 2014 and 2015, Ms. Monica won Best Story at both of iINAS’ SESIC and TESIC conferences, respectively, the latter for which she received a Motion Certificate from the House of Representatives of Puerto Rico. Additionally, she was granted the Margaret Nance Award at the University of Puerto Rico and was nominated for the Henfield Prize at Columbia University. She was also a October 2019 resident at the Vermont Studio Center, a non-profit international residency for writers and artists. Ms. Monica is currently studying for a Juris Doctor at the University of Puerto Rico Law School.
